As how great success is created from humble beginnings, the IBSUniversity witnessed another moment of history today at its Mr Eriama Campus.

The School of Accounting and Finance today launched what will now be known as ‘SAFSA’ or School of Accounting and Finance Students Association.

It was an honorable occasion for all that attended as for some, the inauguration could in many years later share a similar history to that of IBS and how it had developed through vision-driven hard work. The founder of IBS, Sir Mick Nades, an Accounting Professional himself, brought to life the Institute of Business Studies after he identified the need for more accountants to be properly trained and educated in Papua New Guinea.

Officiating at this event, was IBSUniversity Vice Chancellor, Mr Edward Silva. Mr Silva, is also an accounting professional. His passion for accounting and years of professional experience and wisdom, is a great motivation to the young leaders of this new association.

Mr Silva spoke of the history of Accounting and encouraged all students to take responsibility of their studies, not for themselves, but for their country as well.

“You have the responsibility to do it for your country and make your stand internationally”, said Mr Silva.   “Put yourself right first, with values, ethics and principles and you will be a good accountant for your country”, added Mr Silva.

All students were drawn to the words spoken by their Vice Chancellor and identified that the 3 top values to possess as accountants were Integrity, Discipline and Honesty.

The association now looks forward to hosting innovative events for the school as it challenges itself to be a profound organization in Papua New Guinea one day.

SAFSA will be led by a group of enthusiastic committee members under the leadership of Miss Amy Paskalis as its first President.

The association has great guidance and direction from the faculty members of the School of Accounting and Finance and the management of IBSUniversity.
